A friend of mine told me she had a heart attack because of Imitrix, a common drug for migraines.  I have suffered from migraines as well and have found two things that help, in fact migraines give us an opportunity to be ministered to by God in a completely bonding and life changing way.  He really does come close to the broken hearted and hurting. Sometimes when I'm hurting with my head on a pillow, it's almost as if I have my head on His shoulder, and the Scriptures come alive so powerfully. I think there really may be a reason for suffering, because God’s healing presence is clearly experienced and the memory of His gentle care…there is nothing like it.

I asked another migraine sufferer if she ever tried Scriptures and she said, “No, other than praying to Him to see why I'm being punished and repent!”

This broke my heart.  I know it feels like punishment, but don't easily assume that. I think God might resort to that if I absolutely will not pay attention to something serious, and if it's overall good for me it's possible, after all God does know the outcome and I can trust Him.  But migraine pain is more likely from the enemy.  “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy” (John 10:10). Sickness comes from the fall. I think it's probably more like we are in an imperfect world with imperfect bodies until we get Home, and God is waiting for that wonderful day of our coming, but for now, He asks us to remain here and weather the storms while there is still work and growing for us to do. This is the battlefield where we choose whose side we're on and engage. Some of the most injured or suffering are, I believe, the most powerful warriors this side of heaven. Stand strong!

“While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” Such love! Don’t listen to the enemy try to convince you that you are being punished, and if you’re a migraine sufferer, I’m fairly sure the enemy has tried. God is for us, not against us.

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”
(Romans 8:28)

“The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.  For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” (Romans 8)

Notice in the above Scripture, born again Christians are adopted into His Kingdom through Jesus Christ, (Romans 8:14-17 and others), so when God speaks to Israel in the Scriptures below, know that as a born-again Christian, it applies to you too.

And when enemies are spoken of, know who those enemies are, for “We battle not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world's rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” (Ephesians 6:12)

God has not abandoned us.  He calls to you to look to Him in times of trouble. Remember when Jesus invited Peter to walk on water with Him? But the storms became very strong and Peter took his eyes off of Christ and sank. When I have a migraine, that is a definite storm in my life, but I have learned to focus on Jesus with Scriptures within myself.  During a bad migraine, though, it hurts to think, it hurts to read, even sound hurts. So I figured out how to press in to the Scriptures as gently as I can. I found my own favorite Scriptures and slowly, gently whispered a recording of them. I keep thinking I want to add gentle music in the background but even gentle notes hurt during a migraine.

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

“Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable-if there is any virtue and if there is any praise – think/dwell/meditate on these things.” Philippians 4:8

I hope the following Scriptures help you. Maybe I’ll post an audio of them whispered if I can figure out how (basically, God willing) I have to struggle with my ego though, I was never fond of hearing myself talk.  God bless you and keep you, may His peace be upon you, and may you find rest in Him.
